Latest Updates from Our Project:

Happy New Year From Heroes of Barcadia!!!
about 4 years ago – Sat, Jan 08, 2022 at 01:58:40 AM

What better way to start 2022 than by introducing a new element to our backer updates: The HOB Chart of Progress!

Project Status

Every Kickstarter update we send out will include an updated version of this chart so you can see where we are in the process of getting Heroes of Barcadia to you this year. Now you can follow our progress as we go through testing, production, and shipping!

And speaking of this year… we still can’t believe it’s only been five months since our Kickstarter ended. In that short time, we’ve managed to secure all of the materials we need to create the game and its pieces, finalize the core game components, fine-tune the designs, and showcase our work at three major in-person events.

In September, we showed our game off at Gen Con. This was our first time meeting our backers in person, and we wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. So many of you came up to us to share your excitement and anticipation for the game, and the support was unreal.

Our next event feels like yesterday, but it was at PAX U in December. Here we got to meet even more of you and ask about post-campaign stuff. Thank you to those of you who came by our booth and met with us. We love you!

As a final reminder, we will be charging cards on February 7, 2022 for the remaining balances in the Pledge Manager. Also, please keep a lookout for our updates and let us know what you think of the new Chart of Progress.

HOB Presents: Three Holiday Tales
over 4 years ago – Sat, Dec 18, 2021 at 10:22:36 PM

Greetings, fellow Barcadians!

Grab your holiday beverage of choice and gather round the fire for story time. We have three tales for you today that differ in quality and narrative value, but they are stories, nonetheless. Let’s begin with the shortest story about a little card who was unprepared.

The Little Card That Could

Once upon a time, there was an anthropomorphic credit card named Clarence. Clarence loved to be swiped and pay for all the things. But one day, February 7, 2022, to be exact… he didn’t have the funds to pay for his order. Sadly, after another failed attempt, the order was canceled. Clarence sank into a slump, and not even retail therapy could bring him out of his funk.

So, who can tell me the moral of the story?

CORRECT! Your credit cards will be charged through BackerKit on February 7, 2022. (That will give your bank accounts time to recover from the holiday season.) How very astute of you to pick up on that from that poorly crafted narrative. I mean, really… a credit card named Clarence?

But anyway… onto the next holiday story.

The Digital Delivery

‘Twas the night before the big Roll20 rollout when a little holiday goblin came and ran off with all the codes. The Heroes of Barcadia quickly gave chase and cornered him deep in the labyrinth, only to discover the goblin wanted to polish them, wrap them up, and release them along with the full tabletop game. The heroes decided to have mercy on the little goblin because it was the holidays and they had drunk a ton of eggnog.

You guessed the point of the story already! In order to give the best Barcadian experience, we’re pushing back the release date of the Roll20 Heroes of Barcadia game to coincide with the physical one. That way, people will be able to use their Barcadian glasses that come with the physical editions and really enjoy the game the way it was meant to be played.

Adventures in PAX U Land

For the last bit of news, we’re sharing the story of a group of travelers who met up in the magical land of Philadelphia. There, they braved crowds, karaoke, and the coolest cosplays they’ve ever seen to spread the word of Heroes of Barcadia. They met with friends, made a few enemies (we see you Fake Liberty Bell who’s probably a mimic), and even met some of YOU in person.

Rollacrit at PAX Unplugged

That’s right! We went to PAX U this year to show off all the cool things we’re doing at Rollacrit. Thanks to those of you who came and said “Hello.” It was great seeing you in person! Now that we’re back from PAX, we’re following up on production so we can keep you updated with the timeline of when you’ll receive your Heroes of Barcadia game.

Let's Talk Turkey

Hello everyone! We're excited to share some fun news and photos with you as we've pushed into the approval phase of our Heroes of Barcadia production! We've been working hard with our partners to get to this point, and you can see some of the large strides that are happening with the game. Our first round of offset samples have arrived and testing has been completed for the DISHWASHER SAFE cups (it feels good to be able to say that legally)!

Heroes of Barcadia Character Cups

To start us off, for the first time ever, we have all eight of our Heroes of Barcadia standing side by side. While we've had a great time showcasing the original six, it's amazing to see Tipple and Maltida join the fray!

Bottle Cap Trap Tokens and Cloth Drawsting Bag

Next up, we have our Bottle Cap Trap Tokens and handy dandy Cloth Drawstring Bag.

Enhanced Drink Hoard

And for a shiny finale... our first look at the gloriously golden Grand Drink Guardian!

As with all samples, we've also provided feedback on things we'd like to see differently. The number one priority for us is to ensure the quality of each component, and unfortunately, some of those components did not meet our standards. While we raised the bar with our goal of printing everything on plastic to keep it waterproof, this process is much more tedious than a standard paper print. That, coupled with the global challenges we've discussed in previous updates (power shortages, shipping, COVID, etc.) can make things seem like they're going slower than normal.

While it would be easy to lower our standards, it's just not in the cards (insert rimshot here). As we continue to review and validate the quality we know you expect, we'll share our process and progress with you.

This is the last time we mention "survey" in 2021
over 4 years ago – Sun, Oct 31, 2021 at 07:38:45 PM

Barcadians, rejoice!

A momentous occasion is fastly approaching... this is the last time we ask for BackerKit survey responses in 2021! Yaaaaaaaay!!! Mark this date on your calendars, as it is truly a joyous day.

We know, we know. 92% of you are like "OMG stop asking for survey responses — give us something else," but don't worry. By Merlo's beard, this will be the last time we bring it up... mostly because this is the last weekend to complete your BackerKit survey response and add anything that interests you to your order. So please do that.

On a much more exciting note, we're currently locking in orders with our factories. That means we're officially in production, which also means... BUM BUH BAAAAAH...  actual news and pictures of the game to share in future updates!!!!

Be on the lookout for a new round of much more exciting updates coming up. :)

Surveys, Minis, and Videos! Oh My!
over 4 years ago – Sat, Oct 16, 2021 at 01:16:41 AM

Hi everyone! It's time for another Kickstarter update. And as usual, we have a mixed bag of fun stuff and informational stuff, so let's start with the boring part and end with a bang... or in this case a video. First up, a BackerKit survey update.

We've moved the needle to 91% complete, but we're quickly finding that there are a lot more people experiencing the Apple ID issue we described in last week's update than we thought. Because of that, we're pushing the BackerKit cut-off date to October 31st. So if you're seeing this update and you haven't gotten your survey, that gives you 2 weeks and 2 days to reach out by sending us a message through Kickstarter.

Another thing we wanted to mention to eliminate confusion: you will not be charged for any changes/additions yet. That won't come until much later when we have the product in hand and ready to ship. This survey is just for production purposes so we can make the exact amounts we need for our Kickstarter backers.

Also,  while it's good practice to keep your address updated and current, we are not locking shipping addresses at this time. So no worries if you're in the process of moving or about to move just yet. We'll let you know when it's time to lock shipping addresses.

Now for something exciting!

Last week we teased a fun mini update and here it is... as you can see, we're making great progress on getting the miniatures ready.

Intoxica appears

We're still scaling some things and finetuning, but we've made a ton of progress on these little guys and gals.

Keggar and Absinthia hanging out

Also, check out the bottom! When we say we're working on details, we mean it.

Bottoms up!

We're still not quite ready to release the STL files yet. But once we're 100% pleased with all the characters, we'll make sure to get them to you.

Finally, let's end this update with a fun video.

A few weeks ago, we mentioned we went to Gen Con and got to meet some of you. Here's a video highlighting all the shenanigans we were up to, and all the work it takes to take part in a con.

See you in our next update!
